Colissimo Access is a cheap and easy option for sending packages in France. You can book Colissimo online, print off your own shipping label, attach it to your box and drop it off at your local La Poste location. 

If the recipient is not home for the delivery, the parcel will be delivered to a local Post Office ready for the recipient to collect. The courier will leave a note in the mailbox to let the recipient know the location of the Post Office where the item will be. The parcel must be collected in 15 days or it will be returned to the sender's address.
